On 4 June 2026, the final national conference of the LocAll4Flood project was held in Varna. The project, “Flash flood risk prevention & resilience in the Mediterranean area through an Integrated Multi-stakeholder Governance Model, gathering prevention, adaptation and mitigation solutions,” focuses on improving preparedness and resilience to flash flood events. The forum, dedicated to prevention, adaptation, and mitigation solutions, was organized by the Black Sea and Danube Association for Research and Development (BDCA) with the support of the Regional Administration of Varna, an associated partner in the project.
The conference was officially opened by Ms. Elina Dimitrova, Deputy Regional Governor of Varna Region. In her address, she emphasized the importance of cooperation between institutions and local communities in preventing flood risks and adapting to climate change.
Valeri Penchev, Head of the Bulgarian project team, presented the main activities and achievements of the LocAll4Flood project. These efforts are aimed at strengthening the preparedness and resilience of local communities to flash flood events.
During the discussions, representatives of local authorities highlighted the need to update the areas designated in the Flood Risk Management Plan, referring to the recent flooding in the village of Medovets. The disaster serves as an example of a flood risk emerging in a territory that currently lies outside the officially identified flood-risk zones. Participants exchanged ideas for future cooperation in disaster risk management and climate change adaptation.
