An integrative and participatory way of dealing with flash floods in the Mediterranean basin

This leaflet provides a clear summary of how LocAll4Flood supports coordinated flood risk management. The leaflet outlines actions across the three main pillars of the project: Prevention, Adaptation, and Mitigation, showcasing how Early Warning Systems, community awareness, and Nature-based Solutions help strengthen local resilience.
Episodes of intense rainfall are part of the Mediterranean climate. At times, these phenomena lead to flash floods causing material or human damage. To tackle this risk, the LocAll4flood project proposes an Integrated Multi-stakeholder Governance Model, combining prevention, adaptation and mitigation actions, which are tested in small catchments, particularly vulnerable to flash floods. In order to have a wide range of sensitive zones, 9 pilot sites were selected from Greece, Italy, Bulgaria, Malta, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, covering 4 kinds of topographical areas (urban, rural, coastal, industrial). The “bottom-up” approach and several actions are put in place in order to facilitate the transfer of the LocAll4Flood solutions in the Euro-Mediterranean basin. After the testing phase, two additional catchments in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Bulgaria will see the IMGM fully implemented.
