On July 2nd and 3rd, a LocAll4Flood team travelled to Athens to take part in the Natural Heritage Community of Practice meeting, an initiative under the Interreg Euro-MED Mission for Natural Heritage. This event brought together key stakeholders committed to protecting, restoring, and enhancing natural resources.
The gathering was part of the Mission’s governance structure, supported by two strategic projects: the Thematic Community and Institutional Dialogue. These initiatives continue the work of the ‘Mediterranean Biodiversity Protection Community’ and the ‘Blue Growth’ Interreg Med projects, aiming to ensure the integration of past learnings into future policies and practices across the Mediterranean.
During the meeting, the team presented LocAll4Flood, a project addressing the growing risk of flash floods, an increasingly common phenomenon linked to intense rainfall episodes in the Mediterranean. LocAll4Flood introduces an Integrated Multi-stakeholder Governance Model that blends prevention, adaptation, and mitigation actions.
By employing a bottom-up approach, LocAll4Flood aims not only to tailor solutions to local needs but also to ensure their relevance and adaptability across the Mediterranean basin. Sharing our approach and engaging with other natural heritage projects at the Athens meeting marked an important step in scaling collaborative governance and improving flood resilience in vulnerable regions. The active participation of diverse stakeholders in LocAll4Flood highlights the project’s significance and potential impact.
