From 10–12 June, the LocAll4Flood project took part in the V Iberian River Restoration Congress (RestauraRíos) in Soria, Spain, one of the leading events dedicated to river restoration and sustainable water management in the Iberian Peninsula.
During the congress, our partners from BETA Technological Centre presented “Building Mediterranean flood resilience through collaborative water governance and nature-based solutions”, showcasing how our project is promoting more resilient flood management across the Mediterranean.
The presentation highlighted the project’s experience with co-creation workshops and training activities, in which public authorities, researchers, civil society, and other stakeholders collaborated to identify and assess nature-based solutions tailored to local flood-prone areas. It also underlined that effective flood resilience depends not only on technical solutions, but also on collaborative governance, stakeholder participation and strong institutional coordination.
The event offered a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences with the river restoration community. Many of the congress conclusions closely aligned with the project’s findings, particularly the need to preserve and restore natural river processes, secure long-term support for restoration actions, and strengthen communication and public engagement to ensure the successful implementation of nature-based solutions.
