The 5th International Congress on Applied Ichthyology, Oceanography, and Aquatic Environment or HydroMediT 2024, held in Greece, focused on “Integrating Research and Scientific Collaboration to Foster Sustainability of the Blue Economy”.
The paper entitled “Applications of Wave4Us operational platform to support first-level response activities in Thermaikos Gulf” was introduced on May 31 during the HydroMediT Congress. Among its coauthors you will find Dr. Yannis Androulidakis and Dr. Christos Makris, from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and one of thepartners of the LocAll4fFlood project. The paper presents recent updates to the Wave4Us operational met-ocean forecasting platform. It is Integrating the latest developments in all its modelling components (upgraded and implemented in the framework of the LocAll4Flood project to meet its objectives for the prediction of compound and flash-flood events) with a particular focus on floods that mainly affect coastal areas (natural and urban).
The Gulf of Thermaikos, home to the Greek city of Thessaloniki, is at risk of coastal flooding. The Wave4Us platform provides managers with short-term forecast data for high-risk events that threaten the safety of the Gulf’s inhabitants.
