The second training session on the Gurri pilot catchment, organised by BETA Technological Centre, was held on the 20th of May at the town hall in Gurb (Catalonia). The main topic was the educational aspect of flash flood risk management.
Firstly, the results of surveys conducted among individuals residing or working in the Gurri basin regarding their awareness of flooding and their perception of this risk were presented. The main conclusion of the research was that people’s knowledge of the basic concepts of flooding and how to behave in the event of flooding remains limited. The population also showed little confidence in the ability of public authorities to manage flooding risk effectively.
These surveys formed the basis for the flood education materials currently being produced. Card games, exhibitions and role-playing games were presented to obtain feedback from stakeholders.
