On the 27th of March 2025, the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), with the support of the facilitation company Mixité, organised a working session dedicated to the analysis of the areas of interest of Torrent Gros and Torrent de na Bàrbara in Palma de Mallorca. The primary objective was to strengthen flood management and resilience in these areas through a participatory and interdisciplinary approach.
Key stakeholders from the Consell de Mallorca, the Ajuntament de Palma, the Ajuntament de Marratxí researchers from the UIB, emergency experts, the meteorology company METEOCLIM, and members of associations such as GOB Mallorca participated in the meeting. Although the presence of representatives from Water Resources and the Fire Department or Local Police was missed, their participation is confirmed for future sessions.

The day began with a training session in which the project, the Principles of Flood Risk Management, the EU Floods Directive, and the Early Warning System (EWS) developed by HYDS were presented. Those activities focused on identifying vulnerable areas and areas with significant flood risk through mapping exercises and a card game designed by the Energy and Water Agency (EWA). This exercise allowed participants to determine measures to mitigate flood risk in different parts of the catchments.
Through these participatory activities, significant progress was made in identifying critical points and prioritising preventive measures to improve response capacity to extreme events. This collaborative approach will continue to be refined in future sessions, with the inclusion of essential stakeholders to design more comprehensive and coordinated strategies.
