Catalonia, as a Mediterranean region, has historically had a climate characterised by low average precipitation, but also by intense rainfall at certain times of the year. However, climate change seems to be at the root of the accentuation of these trends, which at first glance appear contradictory, but are in mutually reinforcing.
In light of the recent floods in Spain in the autumn, the Catalan Water Partnership, a non-profit strategic association made up of companies and knowledge centres working in the sector of sustainable water use, organised a conference on 4th February 2025 in Lloret de Mar entitled ‘Municipalities, between floods and droughts: challenges and solutions for managing extreme climatic phenomena’.
The LocAll4Flood partners, BETA and HYDS, presented the solutions proposed by the project at the conference, which was attended by around 150 people, many of them representatives of Catalan municipalities. It was an excellent opportunity to promote the project and capitalise on it beyond the Gurri (Vic) pilot site. The three pillars of LocAll4Flood – prevention, adaptation and mitigation – were addressed.
